I was told what these things symbolize, namely, that those who will think themselves stationed in the greatest light, because they are learned, will be in the thickest darkness, while those round about who are not so self-confident, will be in extreme clarity. These things signify, as I was told, that those who suppose that they are established in the clearest light, because they are learned, will be in the grossest darkness; whereas those who are round about, that is, those who do not thus trust in themselves, will be in the greatest clearness.
