1538. This is how the workings of belief in Him go forth from the Lord, all the way from the innermost heaven to the heaven of spirits, where He works from without. But with evil spirits, there is no belief, so they are convinced by various arguments and reasonings within their grasp, for He cannot work from within, because the inner qualities in them still are not in agreement [with His workings]. 1748, 19 March.
1538. Thus do the operations of faith in the Lord proceed from Him, and indeed from the inmost heaven into the heaven of spirits, in which it acts externally. But with evil spirits there is no faith; therefore they may be persuaded by various arguments and reasons according to their apprehension, for faith cannot act from the internal, because the internal things in them do not as yet correspond. 11748, Mar. 19.
