1551. On the meaning of a pit, and the difference between the company of spiritual beings, and heavenly ones
So that I might know the meaning of Joseph's being put into a pit, (see whether the reading is "pitfall"), and being drawn out by Ishmaelites, and Ruben's not knowing where he was [Gen. 37:23-30], [I was instructed as follows.]
See whether the following agrees.
1551. CONCERNING THE SIGNIFICATION OF A PIT, AND OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SPIRITUAL AND THE CELESTIAL MODE OF FELLOWSHIP.
In order that I might know the signification of Joseph's being cast into a pit [puteus] [:examine to see whether the reading be fovea:], and thence drawn out by the Israelites, and how it happened that none of them except Reuben knew where he was [I was instructed as follows].
Examine how far these things agree.
1551. De significatione putei, et discrimine consortii spiritualium et coelestium
Ut scirem, quid significaret, quod Josephus missus sit in puteum, (videatur an ibi legatur fovea), et inde extractus ab Ismaelitis, et quod nesciverit 1
Ruben, ubi esset [Gen. XXXVII: 23-30]. Videatur an haec conveniant. {a}
