Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 1618

1618. And I also conclude that the world of spirits likewise animates the organism, but from below, or from without. Since that world is of such a character that it disjoined itself from the inward heaven, therefore its workings are certainly into the bodily organism, but into its outward one. Hence the outward person is of such a character that it cannot be joined to the inward person except in the same way as heaven and the world of spirits are joined, namely through spirits of the kind that are able to be led by the inward heaven.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 1618

1618. A similar principle holds likewise in regard to the world of spirits, but [in a reverse order, or] from the inferior or exterior; which world being such as to have disjoined itself from the interior heaven, its operations accordingly are into the organic things of the body, but into those that are exterior; whence the exterior man is of such a quality that it cannot be conjoined with the interior otherwise than as heaven and the world of spirits [are conjoined] by such spirits as may be derived from the interior heaven.
