Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 1822

1822. It is a wonder how such spirits for the most part turn to secret arts, even to magic, so as to bewitch, so to speak, those with whom they want to be in high standing, and under whose auspices they are trying to take control. They shudder at nothing, however wicked, and being themselves poisoned to the core, which is a most horrible condition, they are just like subtle poisons that penetrate through the pores-just like that false spirituous fluid or blood.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 1822

1822. It is wonderful how intensely such spirits apply themselves to secret and even to magical arts in order that they might fascinate, as it were, those with whom they wish to stand high, and to rule under their auspices; thus they shrink from nothing, however abominable, for they are poisoned in their interiors, which is itself a most nefarious thing; they are wherefore like interior poisons which penetrate the pores; the same is to be said of such a spurious spirit or blood.
