Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 4215

4215. Portrayals that are not fictitious, yet still appearing, are the kind displayed before the sight of angels in a light arising out of the series of realities from which such things are portrayed. These portrayals are the prototypes, so to speak, of those that are in the world, whence come pleasure gardens, among many other things, etc. etc. When evil spirits are examined by angels, and good ones are examined by angels, there is simultaneously a perception of their qualities.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 4215

4215. Representatives not fictitious, but yet consisting of mere appearances, are such things as are presented to the view of angels in a light originating in the order of the things from which such representations flow. These representations are, as it were, the originals or prototypes of those things that are in the world, such as paradises, etc. etc. By means of these external representations both evil and good spirits are inspected or explored by the angels, and a perception at the same time had of their quality.
