4278. About the sirens
Certain sirens are maltreated in such a way that they are transferred into sad and gloomy societies, where they encounter nothing but sorrowful circumstances. In this way their deceitful inclination is broken, and it was said that they then lose something, and become as if insane. 1749, 17 May. 1

4278. CONCERNING SIRENS.
Certain sirens are punished by being transmitted into sad and sorrowful societies, where they meet with nothing but what is mournful. Their deceitful minds are thus broken down, and it was said that they thus lose, in a measure, their faculties, and become, as it were, insane. - 1749, May 17.
