4532. There is with the evil only the enjoyment of passions, and the enjoyment of feelings with the good, which carries them along. The enjoyment of the evil, if broken, even if they have the best gift of understanding, achieves nothing. Their enjoyment is their life, which is clear from what has just been said - this from much experience.
4532. There is with the evil solely the delight of cupidities, and with the good the delight of affection, which bears them [respectively] away. Nothing can be effected [towards reformation], with the evil, however excellent may be their gift of intelligence, unless their delight be broken; their delight is their life; as may hence be manifest. This [I have learned] from much experience.
4532. Est solum jucundum cupiditatum apud malos, et jucundum affectionum apud bonos, quod aufert eos, jucundum malorum si frangatur, tametsi donum intelligendi optimum haberent, nihil faceret, jucundum illorum est vita eorum, quod inde nunc constat. Hoc a multa experientia.
