Those, therefore, who come there and do not have heavenly light, or rather, physical sight from the light of heaven, that is, who do not have the goodness of care for others and love to the Lord, are unable to see anything there. Those who have a little of that light see things dimly, those who have none at all see nothing, or monsters instead.
4557. Therefore, those who come thither, and are not in heavenly light, or in external sight from the light of heaven, that is, in the good of charity and in love to the Lord, can see nothing there; those who are a little in that light see obscurely; they who are not in it at all see nothing, or even monsters instead of those things [that are there].
4557. Qui itaque illuc veniunt et non in luce coelesti sunt, seu in visu externo a luce coeli, hoc est in bono charitatis et in amore in Dominum, illi nihil ibi videre possunt, qui parum in illa luce sunt, illi vident obscure, illa, qui prorsus non vident nihil vel etiam monstra loco eorum.
