4729. What a little dog on the shoulders symbolizes
It appeared to me on a woman I knew in her bodily life (Maria Polhem 1). On her shoulders was a little dog that went round from one shoulder to the other and also licked her lips. I was told what this meant: she had placed the high point of civilized life in the elegant preparation of foods, so that it was from her extravagant elegance in the preparation of food that such a dog appeared and symbolized it.

4729. WHAT [IS SIGNIFIED BY] A LITTLE DOG ON THE SHOULDERS.
There appeared over a woman (Maria Polhem) known to me in the life of her body - over her shoulders - a small dog which went around from one shoulder to the other, and also licked her lips. I was instructed that it signified that she placed the sum of civil life in elegance and the preparation of viands; so that, from the refinements of luxury in the preparation of viands, such a dog appeared, and it signified this.
4729. Parvus canis super humeris quid
