496. It had been told to me that those dedicated to the involuntary action of breathing, also control a person's sleep. For as soon as the voluntary action of breathing is withdrawn, a person falls asleep; then the functions of those take over who are only feelings [for those] who are angelic, or demons for those who are spirits.
496. It was said to me that those who are assigned to the spontaneous [or involuntary part] of respiration also govern the sleep of man, for as soon as the voluntary part of respiration is taken away man falls into sleep; then follow the functions of those who are only affections, who are angelic, or genii, who are spirits.
496. Dictum mihi erat, quod ii qui spontaneo respirationis dicati sint, etiam regant somnum hominis, nam ut primum demitur voluntarium respirationis, cadit homo in somnum, tunc succedunt munera eorum, qui modo affectiones sunt, qui angelici, seu genii, qui spiritus.
