5110. It happens the other way around with those who are good, namely, those who have had charity toward the neighbor and who have had a love for the Lord as their motivating purpose, even though they have had self-love and love of the world but for the sake of uses still regard as their closest purpose their country, Church, the Lord, thus individuals with whom the inward self commands and the outward or earthly serves; with whom the earthly is closed and held open only where it can serve the inward.
5110. The reverse happens with the good, namely, those who have been in charity towards the neighbor and love to the Lord, as ends, although [they have been] in the love of self and the world, but for the sake of uses, and still look to the neighbor, the country, the Church and the Lord, as the end; - thus, those with whom the internal man rules and the external or natural serves. With these, the natural is closed, and only kept open when it can serve the internal.
