5164. When people are in this state, they have freedom. They go here and there, now in one society, now in another; and then with those from heaven, and with those from hell. And this goes on to the point when they become either good or evil, and when this happens, those who are good are then raised into heaven, and those who are evil thrown down into hell.
5164. When a man's spirit is in that state, he is then in freedom; he goes hither and thither, now to one society, now to another; this time with those from heaven, and that time with those from hell; and this until either good or evil obtains the ascendancy. And when this takes place, then, he who is good is raised up into heaven, and he who is evil is cast down into hell.
5164. Cum homo spiritus in eo statu est, tunc in libero est, vadit huc illuc, nunc in una nunc in alia societate, et tunc cum illis a coelo, et cum illis ab inferno, et hoc usque dum fit vel bonum vel malum, et cum hoc fit, tunc qui bonus elevatur in coelum, qui malus dejicitur in infernum.
