5205. All are sent there who cannot be subdued by punishments, namely, all the criminals who think up wicked ways of harming others, of which there are very many. If this behavior of theirs is incorrigible, then they are in thrown into one of these types of quagmires. The second quagmire, which is in front, is more unpleasant than the rest, on which account those who are more malicious than the others are thrown there.
5205. Thither are sent all of those who cannot be reduced to subjection by punishments, namely, the vicious, who have contrived atrocious and very numerous schemes for injuring others. When this disposition in them cannot be reformed, they are cast into one of those [gulfs]. The second, which is in front, is more dreadful than the rest. Wherefore those are cast thither who are wickeder than others.

Illuc mittuntur omnes illi qui non per poenas domari possunt, nempe flagitiosi, qui excogitarunt artes nefandas nocendi aliis, quae perplures sunt, cum hoc apud illos non emendabile est, tunc in unam earum conjiciuntur; altera quae antrorsum est, est dirior reliquis, quare illuc conjiciuntur qui plus malitiosi quam alii.
