After this those were sent down, not thrown down in that way, who were taken up with worldly things more than with heavenly ones, who made much of worldly things of various kinds and did not care about heavenly ones, thus those with whom worldly and bodily things had the greater influence; for they could not have higher things, for they cared about nothing else than disdainfully looking down and communicating with lower regions. Those who looked down were all sent down, because their concerns were earthly; those, however, who had not looked down [on others], remained. There were various kinds of spirits like this, and I heard the sound of them being sent off and thrown down for a long time, consequently there were countless myriads. They were sent downwards onto a plain, that is, into lower things where their eyes and minds were; and those who were evil into hell. All these were those of the second resurrection.

For these are not able to be in the heights; for they cared for nothing else than to look down upon and communicate with the lower [places]. All who looked down were sent down, because they had care for earthly things; those, however, who did not look down, remained. There were various kinds of such ones and I heard their sending forth and casting down for a long time: thus, they amounted to countless myriads. They were let down into the plain, or the lower [places], where their eyes and their minds were; and those who were evil, into hells. All these were those who were of the second resurrection. 1
