Apocalypse Explained (Tansley translation 1923) 1048

1048. Verse 6. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus; and, when I saw her, I wondered with great wonder.

"And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints," signifies a religious persuasion inducing insanity from the falsities of evil from which violence is offered to Divine truths; "and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus," signifies violence offered to those truths of the Word which teach that the Lord alone is to be worshipped; "and, when I saw her, I wondered with great wonder," signifies a stupendous vision, in which were mysteries of heaven that were unknown to him.

1048. Verse 6. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus; and when I saw her I wondered with great wonder.

6. "And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints," signifies a religious persuasion that is insane from the falsities of evil, from which violence is done to Divine truths (n. 1049); "and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus," signifies violence done to those truths of the Word that teach that the Lord alone is to be adored (n. 1050); "and when I saw her I wondered with great wonder," signifies an astonishing vision in which were arcana of heaven, that were unknown to him (n. 1051).

"Et vidi mulierem inebriatam ex sanguine sanctorum, et ex sanguine testium Jesu, et admiratus sum videns illam, admiratione magna."

6. "Et vidi mulierem inebriatam ex sanguine sanctorum", significat religiosum insaniens ex falsis mali, ex quibus violentia illata Divinis veris (n. 1049); "et ex sanguine testium Jesu", significat violentiam illatam illis veris Verbi, quae docent quod Dominus solus adorandus sit (n. 1050); "et admiratus sum videns illam, admiratione magna", significat visionem stupendam, in qua arcana caeli, quae ei ignota (n. 1051).
