218、由此可知那里的管理者是怎样的,也就是说,他们在爱和智慧方面卓越超群,故出于爱,渴望全体的利益;出于智慧,知道如何实现这种利益。像这样的管理者不会飞扬跋扈、颐指气使,而是事奉和服务。服务就是出于良善之爱而向他人行善,事奉就是确保成就这善。他们不会扬己抑人,而是谦卑自己,因为他们将社群和邻舍的利益放在首位,将自己的利益放在末尾。凡在首位的都更重要,凡在末尾的都不那么重要。然而,这些管理者却享有尊敬和荣耀,他们住在社群的中央,比他人地位更高,也是住在宏伟的宫殿里。他们确实接受了这种荣耀和尊敬,但不是为了自己,而是为了顺服。因为那里的人都知道,他们拥有的这份尊敬和荣耀来自主,因而他们须要顺服。这就是主对祂的门徒所说的这些话的意思:

218. 由此可見, 在天國施行治理的是最具仁愛與智慧的天人。出於仁愛, 他們切望每個人幸福;憑藉智慧, 他們知道該如何實現這種願望。他們不飛揚跋扈, 不頤指氣使, 而是一心侍奉和有所作用。

因為熱愛良善而與人為善就是"有用,"確保行善落到實處就是"服務"。他們也不將自己擺在比別人更重要的位置, 而是次之, 因為他們把社群和鄰人的幸福放在首位, 將個人利益置於其後。放在首位的是更重要的, 置於其後的次之。

他們享有尊榮和威望:住在社群中央, 享有更高的地位, 住在輝煌的宮殿。他們欣然接受如此的尊榮和威望, 但不是自己所求,

乃是出於順服。他們都知道這些尊榮威望是從主而來的恩賜, 因此他們便聽從。

Heaven and Hell #218 (NCE, 2000)

218. We may conclude from this what the officials are like - namely, that they are the people who more than others enjoy love and wisdom and who therefore, out of that love, wish well to everyone and out of that wisdom know how to make sure it happens. People like this do not control and command but minister and serve, for doing good for others out of a love for what is good is serving, and making sure that it happens is ministering. They do not make themselves more important than other people but less so, for they put the welfare of the community and of their neighbor first and their own later. What is first is more important, and what is later is less.

They do have respect and renown, though. They live in the center of their communities, loftier than others, and in splendid mansions as well; and they accept this renown and respect. However, they do so not on their own account but for the sake of obedience. They all know that this respect and this renown are gifts from the Lord, so that they may be obeyed.

This is the meaning of the Lord's words to the disciples:

Whoever among you wants to be great needs to minister to you; and whoever among you wants to be first needs to serve you; just as the Human-born One did not come to be ministered to, but to minister. (Matthew 20:26-28)

Let the greatest among you be as the least, and the one who is your guide be as one who ministers. (Luke 22:26)

218. From all this it can be established what kind of governors there are, namely, that they are such as are pre-eminent in love and wisdom, and so, from love, desire the good of all, and, from wisdom, know how to provide for its being done. Such governors do not domineer or dictate, but minister and serve, for to do good to others from the love of good is to serve, and to provide for its being done is to minister. Nor do they make themselves greater than others, but less. For they put the good of society and of the neighbour in the first place, and their own good last, and whatever is put in the first place is held to be greater, and what is put last, to be less. Nevertheless, the rulers have honour and glory. They dwell in the midst of the society, in a higher position than the rest and also in magnificent palaces. This glory and honour they indeed accept though not for the sake of themselves, but for the sake of obedience. For all there know that they have that honour and glory from the Lord and on that account they are to be obeyed. This is what is meant by the Lord's words to His disciples:

Whosoever would become great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever would be first among you, let him be your servant, as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister. Matthew 20:26-28.

He that is greatest among you, let him be as the least, and he that is chief as he that doth serve. Luke 22:26.

218. From all this it can be seen what the governors there are, namely, that they are such as are preeminent in love and wisdom, and therefore desire the good of all, and from wisdom know how to provide for the realization of that good. Such governors do not domineer or dictate, but they minister and serve (to serve meaning to do good to others from a love of the good, and to minister meaning to see to it that the good is done); nor do they make themselves greater than others, but less, for they put the good of society and of the neighbor in the first place, and put their own good last; and whatever is in the first place is greater and what is last is less. Nevertheless, the rulers have honor and glory; they dwell in the midst of the society, in higher position than the rest, and also in magnificent palaces; and this glory and honor they accept not for the sake of themselves but for the sake of obedience; for all there know that they have this honor and glory from the Lord, and on that account should be obeyed. This is what is meant by the Lord's words to His disciples
