4. THE EXPLANATION.

VERSES 1-3. The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto his servants things which must shortly in come to pass; and he signified [this], sending by his angel unto his servant John, who bare witness of the Word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, whatsoever things he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear, the words of the prophecy, and keep the things which are written therein; for the time is at hand. "The Revelation of Jesus Christ," signifies, predictions by the Lord concerning the last times of the church; "which God gave unto him, to show unto his servants," signifies, for those who are in truths from good; "things which must shortly come to pass," signifies, which will certainly take place; "and he signified [this], sending by his angel unto his servant John," signifies, which are revealed from heaven to those who are in the good of love.

"Who bare witness of the Word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ," signifies, that it is for those who in heart acknowledge the Divine truth, and the Divine of the Lord in His Human; "whatsoever things he saw," signifies, that their understanding is enlightened.

"Blessed," signifies, those in whom heaven is; "is he that readeth," signifies, that they perceive; "and they that hear the words of the prophecy," signifies, that they live according to the doctrine of heaven; "and keep the things which are written therein," signifies, that they do so from the delight of the love of truth; "for the time is at hand," signifies, that the interior state is such.

4. EXPOSITION

Verses 1-3. The revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave Him to show unto His servants the things which must quickly come to pass, and signified, sending by His angel, unto His servant John, who bare witness to the Word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, whatsoever things he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear, the words of the prophecy, and keep the things which are written therein; for the time is near.

1. "The revelation of Jesus Christ," signifies predictions from the Lord respecting the last times of the church (n. 5); "which God gave Him to show unto His servants," signifies for those who are in truths from good (n. 6); "the things which must quickly come to pass," signifies which will certainly be (n. 7); "and signified, sending by His angel, unto His servant John," signifies which are revealed out of heaven to those who are in the good of love (n. 8, 9);

2. "who bare witness to the Word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ," signifies to those who in heart acknowledge Divine truth, and the Divine of the Lord in His Human (n. 10); "whatsoever things he saw," signifies having their understanding enlightened (n. 11);

3. "Blessed," signifies those in whom is heaven (n. 12); "is he that readeth" signifies that they have perception (n. 13); "and they that hear the words of the prophecy," signifies that they live according to the doctrine of heaven (n. 14); "and keep the things which are written therein," signifies from the delight of the love of truth (n. 15); "for the time is near," signifies such an interior state n. 16.

4. EXPLICATIO.

VERSUS 1-3.

"Revelatio Jesu Christi, quam dedit illi Deus indicare servis suis, quae oportet fieri cito, et significavit mittens per angelum suum servo suo Johanni. Qui testatus est Verbum Dei, et testimonium Jesu Christi, quaecunque vidit. Beatus legens, et audientes verba prophetiae, et servantes quae in ea scripta; quia tempus prope."

1. "Revelatio Jesu Christi", significat praedictiones de ultimis temporibus ecclesiae a Domino (n. 5); "quam dedit illi Deus indicare servis suis", significat pro illis qui in veris ex bono sunt (n. 6); "quae oportet fieri cito", significat quae certe futura (n. 7); "et significavit mittens per angelum suum servo suo Johanni", significat quae revelata e caelo illis qui in bono amoris sunt (n. 8, 9).

2. "Qui testatus est Verbum Dei, et testimonium Jesu Christi", significat quod illis qui corde agnoscunt Divinum Verum, ac Divinum Domini in Humano Ipsius (n. 10); "quaecunque vidit", significat intellectum illis illustratum (n. 11).
