15、在天堂,有两种不同的爱,即对主的爱和对邻舍的爱。在高层或第三层天堂,是对主的爱;在中间层或第二层天堂,是对邻舍的爱。{注1}两种爱都从主发出,创造了天堂。这两种爱是如何不同的,又是如何结合在一起的,在天堂之光中清晰可见,但在尘世只能模糊可辨。在天堂,“爱主”并非是爱祂的人格形像{注2},而是爱来自祂的良善,爱良善就是出于爱而意愿并践行良善;“爱邻舍”并非爱同伴这个人,而是爱来自圣经的真理,爱真理就是意愿并践行真理。由此清楚可见,这两种爱的区别如同良善与真理的区别,它们的结合也如同良善与真理的结合。{注3}然而,除非人们知道什么是爱,什么是良善,什么是邻舍,否则人们很难理解这一点。{注4}

15. 天國之中, 愛有對主與對人兩種:前者是第三層天(或內層天)的特質, 是對主之仁;後者是第二層天(或中層天)的特質, 是對鄰舍之義(charity, 在本書中譯為"義,"表示因信而有相適宜的行為)。兩者皆源於主, 分別形成相應的天國。在天國之光中, 能清楚看到兩者如何不同以及如何聯合, 在人間卻只能依稀地分辨。在天國,"對主之仁"(或說"愛主")並非熱愛主所投射的某個形像, 而是熱愛源於主的良善;愛良善就是立志並行出善來。同理,"對鄰之義"(或說"愛鄰")並非愛親友鄰居所投射的形像, 而指熱愛源於聖言的真理;愛真理就是想要並行出理來。由此可知,"愛主"與"愛鄰"之別有如善與理之別, 兩者聯合有如善理聯合。

只是對於不明白什麼是愛, 善, 鄰舍的人來說, 以上說法與他的觀念並不相符。

15. There are two quite distinguishable loves in heaven - love for the Lord and love for our neighbor. Love for the Lord is characteristic of the third or central heaven, while love for our neighbor is characteristic of the second or intermediate heaven. Both come from the Lord, and each one makes a heaven.

In heaven's light, it is easy to see how these two loves differ and how they unite, but this can be seen only dimly in our world. In heaven, "loving the Lord" does not mean loving him for the image he projects but loving the good that comes from him. Further, "loving one's neighbor" does not mean loving companions for the images they project but loving the truth that comes from the Word. Loving the truth is intending and doing it. We can therefore see that these two loves differ the way "good" and "true" differ and unite the way these two unite. 1

All this, though, will not conform to the notions of anyone who does not know what love is, what the good is, and what the neighbor is. 2

15. There are two distinct loves in heaven, love to the Lord and love towards the neighbour. In the inmost or third heaven is love to the Lord and in the second or middle heaven is love towards the neighbour. Each proceeds from the Lord and each makes heaven. What the distinction is between these two loves and how they are conjoined appears in heaven in clear light, but in the world only obscurely. In heaven, by loving the Lord is not meant loving Him in respect of His person but loving the good which is from Him, and loving good is willing good and doing it from love; and loving the neighbour does not mean loving a companion in respect of his person but loving the truth which is from the Word, and loving truth is willing and doing it. From this it is clear that there is a distinction between these two loves as there is between good and truth and that they are conjoined as good is conjoined with truth. 1But these things can scarcely be comprehended by a man who does not know what love is, what good is, and what the neighbour is. 2
