316. The reason the Lord rose not only in respect to his spirit but in respect to his body as well is that when the Lord was in the world, he glorified his whole human nature - that is, he made it divine. In fact, his soul, which he received from the Father, was essentially the Divine itself, and his body became an image of that soul (that is, of the Father) and therefore also divine. This is why he, unlike anyone else, rose in both spirit and body. 1He showed this to his disciples - who believed they were seeing a spirit when they saw him - by saying, "Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I do" (Luke 24:36-39). In this way he pointed out that he was not a person in spirit only, but in body as well.

1. We rise again as to our spirits: 10593-10594. Only the Lord rose as to his body as well: 1729, 2083, 5078, 10825.

316. The Lord rose again not as to His spirit alone but also as to His body, because when He was in the world He glorified His whole Human, that is, He made it Divine. For His soul which He had from the Father was of Itself the very Divine, while His body became a likeness of the soul, that is, of the Father, thus also Divine. This is why He, differently from any man, rose again as to both; 1and this He made manifest to the disciples (who when they saw Him believed that they saw a spirit), by saying:
See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; handle Me and see, for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as ye see Me have. Luke 24:36-39.
Indicating thereby that He was Man not only as to the spirit but also as to the body.

1. Man rises again only as to his spirit (Arcana Coelestia 10593-10594).
The Lord alone rose again in respect of His body also (Arcana Coelestia 1729, 2083, 5078, 10825).

indicating thereby that He was a man both in respect to His spirit and in respect to His body.

"Videte manus meas et pedes meos, quod Ipse ego sim; palpate Me et videte, nam spiritus carnem et ossa non habet, sicut Me videtis habere," (Luca 24:36-38[, 39]);
