How much harm is done by using the Word to justify premises that are false, especially if they are in support of a love for oneself and for the world: 589. People who do not care about truth for the sake of truth flatly reject whatever has to do with the inner meaning of the Word and are nauseated by it: 5702 (which includes evidence from eyewitness experience of people like this in the world of spirits). About some people in the other life who rejected the deeper contents of the Word; they tried attack me went berserk: 1879.
15. Concerning those who are opposed to the Word
Concerning those who mock, blaspheme against, and profane the Word: 1878. What is their quality in the other life: 1761, 9222. What the vicious parts of the blood mean: 5719. 1The degree of danger from profanation of the Word: 571, 582. How harmful it is if false assumptions, especially those which promote love of self and worldly things, are confirmed through the Word: 589. Those who have no affection for the truth because it is the truth are quite clearly rejecting those things which belong to the internal sense of the Word, and are nauseated by them, based on my experience of such persons in the world of spirits: 5702. Certain persons in the other life who tried absolutely to reject the inner parts of the word were deprived of reason: 1879.

1. An interesting glitch has come to light. Both the 1st edition and the 1934 Latin text has viscosa sanguinis, the sticky/viscous parts of the blood. This may well be a biologically sound concept, but it seemed to me to have nothing to do with Swedenborg's line of thought at this point. Remarking on this to the Rev'd John Elliott, I quickly received the reply that Arcana Coelestia 5719 has 'vitiosa,' or 'vicious/sinful:' much more satisfactory! It seems that the misreading has been handed down by successive editors for well over 200 years.

Concerning those who ridicule, blaspheme and profane the Word, (1878) their quality in the other life, (1761, 9222). They relate to the viscous things of the blood, (5719). How very dangerous it is to profane the Word, (571-582). How harmful it is, if principles of falsity, especially those which are favourable to the love of self and the world, are confirmed by means of the Word, (589). They who have no affection for truth for the sake of truth are utterly disdainful of those things Which belong to the internal sense of the Word, and are nauseated by them. Certain persons in the other life, who made an attempt to spurn utterly the interiors of the Word, were deprived of rationality, (1879).

They relate to the viscous parts of the blood (5719). How great the danger is from profaning the Word (571-582). How hurtful it is, if principles of falsity, particularly those which favor self-love and the love of the world, are confirmed by the Word (589). They who are in no affection of truth for its own sake, utterly reject the things appertaining to the internal sense of the Word, and nauseate them, from experience of such in the world of spirits (5702). Of some in the other life, who endeavored altogether to reject the interior things of the Word; such are deprived of rationality (1879).
