Heaven and Hell #20 (NCE, 2000)

20. Heaven Is Divided into Two Kingdoms

Since there are infinite varieties in heaven - since no community and in fact no individual is just like any other 1- heaven is therefore divided overall, more specifically, and in detail. Overall, it is divided into two kingdoms, more specifically into three heavens, and in detail into countless communities. We will now discuss the details. They are called "kingdoms" because heaven is called "the kingdom of God."

Footnotes:

1. There is an infinite variety, and nothing can ever be identical to anything else: 7236, 9002. There is an infinite variety in heaven as well: 684, 690, 3744, 5598, 7236. The varieties in heaven are varieties of what is good: 3744, 4005, 7236, 7833, 7836, 9002. By this means all the communities in heaven and every angel in a community are distinguishable from each other: 690, 3241, 3519, 3804, 3986, 4067, 4149, 4263, 7236, 7833, 7836. Still, they all form one entity by means of love from the Lord: 457, 3986.

Heaven and Hell #20 (Harley, 1958)

20. HEAVEN IS DISTINGUISHED INTO TWO KINGDOMS

As there are infinite varieties in heaven, and no one society nor even any one angel is exactly like any other, 1there are in heaven general, specific and particular divisions. The general division is into two kingdoms, the specific into three heavens and the particular into innumerable societies. The details will be treated of in what now follows. They are termed kingdoms because heaven is called the kingdom of God.

Footnotes:

1. There is infinite variety and nowhere anything the same as another (Arcana Coelestia 7236, 9002). Also, in the heavens there is infinite variety (Arcana Coelestia 684, 690, 3744, 5598, 7236); and those varieties are varieties of good (Arcana Coelestia 3744, 4005, 7236, 7833, 7836, 9002); and thus all the societies in the heavens and every angel in a society are distinguished from each other (Arcana Coelestia 690, 3245, 3519, 3804, 3986, 4067, 4149, 4263, 7236, 7833, 7836); but still all make one by love from the Lord (Arcana Coelestia 457, 3986).

Heaven and Hell #20 (Ager, 1900)

20. IV. HEAVEN IS DIVIDED INTO TWO KINGDOMS.

As there are infinite varieties in heaven, and no one society nor any one angel is exactly like any other, 1there are in heaven general, specific, and particular divisions. The general division is into two kingdoms, the specific into three heavens, and the particular into innumerable societies. Each of these will be treated of in what follows. The general division is said to be into kingdoms, because heaven is called "the kingdom of God."

Footnotes:

1. There is infinite variety, and nowhere any thing the same as another (Arcana Coelestia 7236, 9002).

Also in the heavens there is infinite variety (684, 690, 3744, 5598, 7236).

Varieties in heaven are varieties of good (3744, 4005, 7236, 7833, 7836, 9002).

All societies in the heavens, and all angels in a society, are thereby distinguished from each other (690, 3241, 3519, 3804, 3986, 4067, 4149, 4263, 7236, 7833, 7836).

Nevertheless they are all made one by love from the Lord (457, 3986).

De Coelo et de Inferno #20 (original Latin)

20. [IV.] QUOD CAELUM DISTINCTUM SIT IN DUO REGNA.

Quoniam in caelo sunt infinitae varietates, et una societas non prorsus similis alteri, ne quidem unus angelus alteri, 1ideo distinguitur caelum in communi, in specie et in parte; in communi in duo regna, in specie in tres caelos, ac in parte in innumeras societaes: de singulis in nunc sequentibus dicetur. Regna dicuntur, quia caelum vocatur "Regnum Dei."

Footnotes:
