243. The same kind of speech we find in the spiritual world is innate in all of us, but in the deeper part of our intellect. However, since for us it does not come down into words that parallel our affections the way it does for angels, we are unaware that we possess it. Yet this is why we have access to the same language as spirits and angels when we arrive in the other life and know how to talk with them without being taught. 1But more on this below.

Speech like that in the spiritual world is inherent in every man but in his interior intellectual part, yet man does not know this, because this speech does not with man, as with angels, fall into words analogous to affection. Nevertheless, this is what causes man, when he enters the other life, to come into the same speech as spirits and angels, and thus to know how to speak without instruction. 1But more on this subject below.
